Although lesser known than its world-famous island neighbor Bali, and much less crowded, laidback Lombok is also renowned for its beaches, surf breaks and diving. One of the things that sets Lombok apart from Bali is the island’s picturesque waterfalls, particularly Tiu Kelep, which is enveloped by enchanting emerald jungle.

Overview
Lombok is also home to Mount Rinjani, an active volcano that is the second-highest in Indonesia. This majestic mountain, a mecca for trekkers, towers over the island and consists of a caldera with a crater lake. Lombok’s pristine natural beauty is capable of bewitching even the most seasoned traveler.
What To Do
A trek to Tiu Kelep is a must. Located in the north of Lombok near the village of Senaru, it is about an hour’s hike through lush jungle and at the end you can swim in the pool at the base of the spectacular waterfall. More experienced trekkers will want to tackle Mount Rinjani, and on the way back soothe their aching muscles in nearby Air Kalak Hot Springs, which are believed to have medicinal properties because of their high volcanic mineral content. And no trip to Lombok is complete without visiting Selong Belanak Beach, located in the south of the island and one of its most breathtaking.
