When to Go

Bonaire boasts a year-round temperate climate. Due to its location near the equator, islanders and vacationers experience 12 hours of sunlight each day, plus an average temperature of 82 F.

Bonaire receives only about 22 inches of rainfall per year, with about 76 percent humidity.

If you travel to Bonaire in October, you may be able to catch the week-long International Sailing Regatta off Kralendijk.

Between late February and early March, you’ll discover the biggest Carnival of the year with festive music, dancing and harvest celebrations.

Fast Facts

Bonaire is home to one of only four Caribbean flamingo nesting grounds.

The hidden village of Rincon on Bonaire was built by the Spanish during the early 16th century to protect themselves from pirates and other invaders. Rincon remains the oldest village in continual existence on Bonaire.

The islanders love their cactus so much that they made an intriguing alcoholic beverage from it, called Cadushy.

Beloved singer Harry Belafonte wrote The Banana Boat Song to underscore his passion for Bonaire.

Green energy efficient, the island’s northeast coast contains a dozen wind generators fulfilling nearly half of Bonaire’s electricity needs.
