Fast Facts
The hard-packed sands of Daytona Beach were originally used for high-speed automobile testing, and later, racing during the early 1900s. In the 1920s, the area was dubbed the “World’s Most Famous Beach.” Later, NASCAR founder William “Bill” France built the world’s most famous racetrack, the Daytona International Speedway. It has hosted the renowned Daytona 500 since 1959. Today, local beaches are mostly used for sunbathing and a little car racing.
