Fast Facts

People from Phoenix are called Phonecians and residents of Scottsdale are known as Scottsdalians. In 1939, locals hoping to save the desert founded the Desert Botanical Garden, presently home to 140 acres and 21,000 plants, in Phoenix. The Saguaro Cactus Blossom, a white flower that blooms atop the saguaro cactus only once a year, is Arizona’s state flower.
