Overview

South Korea is known for its rich history, Buddhist temples, historic palaces, and fashionable capital city, Seoul, which is also the culture capital of the country. Officially known as Seoul Special City, this marked metropolis is the birthplace of K-pop and Gangnam Style, and home to a plethora of UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Changdeokgung, a 15th-century palace complex that seamlessly blends with the surrounding landscape. Other must-see sights in South Korea include Gamcheon Culture Village in Busan, Bukhansan National Park, and the Korean Demilitarized Zone.

What to See

Seoul: South Korea’s capital city, Seoul Special City, is exceptional indeed. Seoul is where modern skyscrapers meet ancient Buddhist temples, where Gangnam Style seamlessly blends with traditional enclaves. Some of the city’s top attractions include Gyeongbokgung Palace, which was built in the 14th century; the N Seoul Tower, a landmark rising more than 770 feet; and Bukchon Hanok Village, where you will find a plethora of painstakingly restored traditional Korean houses.

Busan: South Korea’s second-largest city is blessed with beaches and temples. Haeundae Beach is the city’s most famous and popular, while Songjeong Beach is a mecca for surfers. See one of South Korea’s few seaside temples, Haedong Yonggungsa Temple. Busan is also home to Gamcheon Culture Village, aka “Santorini on the South Sea.”

Gyeongju: This historic city is known as "the museum without walls" and is a treasure trove of archaeological sites and historic Buddhist temples.
